Laila Abed
Founder + Planning Facilitator

Hey everyone! I am a first-generation Palestinian-American Muslim and an undergraduate at Columbia University (CU '27), majoring in Urban Studies with a specialization in Public Health. As the founder of Metro(polis) Makers, my goal is to actively involve youth in the creative process of reimagining urban spaces to reflect their unique perspectives and needs.
I serve on the National Board of Directors and Youth Advisory Council of PERIOD Inc., a global nonprofit advocating for menstrual equity. Committed to public service, I plan to pursue a Master's in Urban Planning to design city interventions that support infrastructure restoration and cultural heritage.

Hey y'all! I am an Egyptian-American Muslim and an undergraduate at Columbia University (CU '27), majoring in Psychology. My goal with Metro(polis) Makers is to understand how urban environments influence group behavior, mental health, and well-being (urban psychology) and the connection to immigrant assimilation and ethnic mixing.
I am the co-founder of Migrants with Migraines, a global podcast that highlights immigrant experiences and advocates for better policy reforms. After my undergraduate studies, I plan to pursue a PhD in clinical neuropsychology and work as a clinician, behaviorally supporting marginalized communities.
